Merlot "MCMLVII" were born from an insight in 1995 by Luis von Dellemann, then winemaker at the Lageder estate, who was confronted with grapes of such quality in the Punggl vineyard in Magrè that they induced him to vinify them as a single varietal.
The name comes from Roman numerals since the first vintage produced was released at the turn of the millennium.
Malolactic fermentation in steel and aging for 18 months in barrique before resting again in the bottle before indulging.
Drink it now or leave it in the cellar. Absolutely must try.
Tasting Notes.: In the glass it appears dark ruby red with garnet highlights.
Broad and complex bouquet on the nose with onset of ripe plum, plum, myrtle followed by notes of black truffle and underbrush. A floral hovering completes the symphony of scents.
The palate is broad, enveloping, circular. Perfectly integrated tannins, sapidity and freshness for a very balanced mouthfeel. The persistence is also long.
Pairings: Excellent with game dishes, aged cheeses, lamb and white meats. Also try it with veal ragout in full South Tyrolean flavor.
