Casale del Giglio is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious and well-established wineries in Lazio, with deep roots in Agro Pontino, in the province of Latina. Its history began in 1967, when Dino Santarelli, with great foresight, decided to bet on this land then still unexplored from a viticultural point of view, realizing its potential.
The winery is located in Le Ferriere, near the ancient city of Satricum, about 50 kilometers south of Rome and a short distance from the Tyrrhenian Sea. The fresh, brackish sea breezes positively influence the ripening of the grapes, enriching their aromatic profile. Today, Casale del Giglio it represents a true symbol of Latium viticulture at the international level, with 164 hectares of vineyards in Agro Pontino and a growing success, evidenced by the numerous awards received from the most authoritative wine guides. Since the 1990s, the Santarelli family has been using the enological consultancy of Paolo Tiefenthaler, who has initiated an ambitious research and experimentation project.
The mission of Casale del Giglio è To enhance and reinterpret international grape varieties. in the context of the Latium terroir. Merlot and Petit Verdot from Bordeaux, Petit Manseng from Gascony, Viognier and Syrah from the Rhone Valley have adapted perfectly to the microclimate of Agro Pontino, characterized by the beneficial influence of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The results obtained are amazing, ensuring consistent quality vintage after vintage, capable of evoking great wine territories while maintaining an identity strongly linked to Lazio. But the winery does not limit itself to international grape varieties: native varieties, such as Bellone, are also enhanced to bring out their unique characteristics.
