Rocca di Frassinello
Rocca di Frassinello is located on the right hill going north that is formed on either side of the old Aurelia and which, thanks to the first major Roman road, forms a kind of canyon into which the sea wind from the plain between Castiglion della Pescaia and Grosseto slips, a constant breeze that removes any moisture and mitigates the climate even more in both winter and summer.
From the top of that hill you can see the sea beyond Marina di Grosseto to the Parco dell'Uccellina. Rocca di Frassinello was born from a French-Italian joint venture so, in the nearly 90 hectares of vineyards, there are both Italian grape varieties - Sangioveto e Vermentino - as well as French grape varieties - Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
The wines of Rocca di Frassinello are all blends with the exception of Baffonero - challenger of Masseto in the spirit of the America's Cup, the most famous Italian wine of our friends Marchesi Frescobaldi, owners of Ornellaia - which is 100% merlot. Exactly the opposite of the philosophy of Castellare di Castellina where native grape varieties are not made blend with international ones. The first official vintage was 2004 with about 130 thousand bottles produced.
