Villa Sparina

Villa Sparina is a winery based in Monterotondo, in Piedmont, in the heart of the well-known area of Gavi, a land that is now also a DOCG and has been dedicated to the cultivation of vines since time immemorial. The winery was founded in the 1970s by the family Moccagatta, which has made wine a meeting point between creativity and tradition, always focusing on respect for the land with the aim of enhancing the history and culture linked to the local grapes. Villa Sparina covers an area of 100 hectares, of which 70 are cultivated with native grape varieties, dedicated to the production of wine Gavi e Barbera. The vines grow on a calcareous clay soil that has always been suited for this purpose, and enjoy optimal exposure and a climate that benefits from the influences of the Ligurian Sea. One of the estate's most significant wines is the cru Monterotondo, the highest qualitative achievement in the production of Villa Sparina, is a white wine from pure Cortese grapes, since 1997 the winery has been separately and artisanally vinifying grapes from a historic vineyard dating back to 1945. Most of the vineyards are located in the hamlet of Monterotondo and flank Villa Sparina Resort, an estate where events can be held and special vintages of the wines Villa Sparina. The hills planted with cortese give life to the Gavi of Gavi and a Sparkling wine of quality Brut. The other main grape variety grown by the company is the Barbera from which the Barbera Monferrato DOC and a specific cru: Rivalta, 9 hectares located in Rivalta Bormida, among the hills of Acqui Terme in the Alto Monferrato. I wines of Villa Sparina and the Moccagatta family are characterized by a balance, directness and care that envelops the entire production process such as to give us harmonious wines e natural ambassadors of a beautiful territory.
