The Be Luna, in a very small print run, represents a "plunge" into the past, being made from centuries-old vines. The 2019 version possesses aromas of bramble fruit, wild flowers, herbs, pepper and a splendid balsamic nuance to finish. In the mouth, it is no less with a very Mediterranean rich yet nervous sip, with pronounced savory accents and a still balsamic and spicy finish.
Bentu Luna is the new wine project of Gabriele Moratti (already present in the Bel Paese wine scene with Castello di Cigognola in Oltrepò Pavese) and finds its place of choice in the center of Sardinia, on 25 hectares of vineyards for a total production of 70,000 bottles.
The winery is based in Neoneli, while the entire project is developed between Mandrolisai and Barigadu, in the provinces of Oristano and Nuoro. It revolves around the enhancement of the Mandrolisai DOC and the safeguarding of a unique viticultural heritage - made up of plots of old sapling vines from 40 to 60 years old, with some vines even over 100 years old - composed only of old-growth varieties, which risked extinction because they were unable to create income.
The wines are made from vinification in raw concrete tanks, and the use of wood is restrained and limited to used barriques, a stylistic choice definitely in line with the overall philosophy of the project.
Tasting Notes: by ruby red color intense, the wine reveals aromas of cherry and hints of spice on the nose. The sip is soft, with a discreetly persistent finish.
Pairings: Excellent with appetizers of flavorful cured meats and aged cheeses, first courses with meat sauces and red meats.
