Cont'Ugo is born exclusively from Merlot grapes to interpret the Bolgheri territory according to a new perspective.
Tenuta Guado al Tasso is located near Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast, in the center of the area known as the "Bolgheri amphitheater": rolling hills surround a beautiful plain that slopes down to the sea, creating a unique microclimate.
In this environment, merlot has shown its full potential, finding in Italy the ideal place to express itself at its best, giving birth to powerful and harmonious wines. "Cont'Ugo" is the result of a careful selection of grapes, vinified in steel and then left to mature for about a year in barriques.
Tasting Notes.: by. ruby red color intense. Notes of small red fruits such as cherry, morello cherry and raspberry accompanied by aromas of sweet spices and Mediterranean herbs stand out on the nose. The palate is striking for its silky tannins, a wine of good persistence, great balance and pleasantness.
Pairings: perfect with whole meal, it goes well with rich first courses typical of Tuscan cuisine. Try it with a pasta with sausages.

Vinification | Selection was made from the best Merlot grapes from the estate's 40 hectares of vineyards. After manual harvesting and careful selection in the winery, the grapes were transferred to thermo-conditioned stainless steel tanks where the alcoholic fermentation and the maceration, for a period of about 20 days. Fermentation temperature was managed according to the ripeness level of the grapes: some at lower temperatures to maintain more aromatic freshness, others at temperatures of about 30 °C to emphasize polyphenolic extraction and the structure. Different types of Merlot were thus obtained and transferred to barrels separately. |
Aging | La malolactic fermentation took place in barrels (1/3 new) and was finished by the end of the year. After 8 months of elevation in French oak, the best batches were blended and put back into barrels for an additional 4 months. At end of this period, bottling was carried out. The wine aged in the bottle for about 6 months before release. |
