Artists for Frescobaldi is a biennial contemporary art prize created in 2012 by Tiziana Frescobaldi, curated by Ludovico Pratesi. It is a noble initiative that sees the continuation of the ancient vocation of the family, which since the Renaissance has been close to the greatest artists of every era. With each edition, three artists are involved, who create a special label for a limited edition. In this case, for the edition held in 2014, the winery's wine of choice was the Toscana Rosso IGT Montesodi made within the Castello di Nipozzano, the Frescobaldi family's most famous and historic property. This is a pure Sangiovese left to mature for about 18 months in 30-hectoliter French and Austrian oak barrels, which has a broad and aristocratic profile on the nose and palate. Michael Sailstorfer, a German conceptual artist who in his research specializes in giving new life to everyday objects, reinterpreting them through the use of different materials to create sculptures and installations, proclaimed himself the winner of this edition of the "Artists for Frescobaldi" award. The idea presented in the label, in which the wine bottle becomes a brush through which the female nude is depicted in front of the artist, is very interesting.
Tasting Notes: In the glass it develops with a beautiful ruby red color, crossed by flashes that tend toward garnet. The violet flower and blackberry fruit intersect with passion and carnality, creating a range of aromas that can then benefit from notes of coffee, spice and licorice. On the palate it is full-bodied, with a texture at once fine and dense, characterized by a fresh sip. It closes with a finish endowed with excellent persistence.
Pairings: Throughout a meal, it is excellent with short-cooked red meats It goes wonderfully with the classic Florentine steak.
