The history of the Antinori winery

THE Marchesi Antinori They are one of the most important families in the world in the wine sector. If not the most important. It is the third most ancient family company in the wine sector. Think that the Antinori winery was founded in 1385 and today after 26 generations is still in the hands of the same family. It was not purchased by international groups, he did not mention with other companies. Indeed it has become a group acquiring other Tuscan cellars and not only and creating a real industrial giant, with its 23 million bottles produced and sold all over the world. And we are talking about fine and high quality wines.

Around 1500 the Antinori family starts to export its wines in Europe with great success. At the Marchesi Antinori we have largely the fame of Tuscan wines and the Sangiovese vine. Born in the current Zone of Chianti Classico, he has bought a little over the years, but also in other regions such as Umbria and Lombardy in Franciacorta. As a group he then started, in recent years, a series of wineries acquisitions or wineries already launched around Italy. Below you will find all the seals and wines of the Antinori winery that you can buy at our wine shop.
Antinori in the Chianti Classico
The birthplace of the Marchesi Antinori is the current classic Chianti. He started everything from here. Today the cellar represents an architectural marvel perfectly set among Chianti vineyards. Here is the historical headquarters of Antinori renovated in 2012 and now also houses a museum and a restaurant. Other seals are owned by the family in this area: Badia in Passignano and Tenuta Pèppoli.

TIGNANELLO ANTINORI holder
Here we find ourselves faced with the most prestigious estate of the cellar, not for the structure but for the quality of the vineyards: exposure, soil and thermal excursions give life to the most iconic Antinori wines: Tignanello and Solaia. The first born in the 70s was the first Sangiovese to refine in Barrique and, following what was happening to Bolgheri in those years, vinified with other international vines such as Cabernet. The Solaia, born a few years later, is today one of the most expensive Italian wines and one of the most valuable obviously.

Antinori wines - Tenuta for Guado at the rate
Around the 1930s the family inherits the Tenuta Guado at the rate in Bolgheri. Fifty years after that territory lights up a new light and begin to arise incredible wines. The family around the 90s begins to produce wine intuenting that something special was born from those parts. And so it was. Today Bolgheri is considered one of the most important areas in the world of wine.

Antinori wines - Pian delle Vigne
And Montalcino? A family so important how the Marchesi Antinori and mostly Tuscan could not have a held in Montalcino? In 1995 they buy the company Pian delle Vigne and start producing Brunello di Montalcino with their staff who have always distinguished them.

Antinori - Castle of the room
In 1940 Niccolò Antinori became an estate in Umbria on the border with Tuscany, the castle of the room. Already owned by the family but then gone into the church. Here you realized that the vocation of the area for the production of white wines, until that moment remained marginal, could give new luster to the estate. So between the 1970s and the 1980s together with a young Enzo Cotarella we start cultivating Chardonnay and Grechetto, and you experience the use of the barrique for whites. The white Antinori wines and the legendary cervaro of the room are born.

Antinori in Franciacorta - Montenisa Tenut
In 1999 Antinori buys a cellar in Franciacorta: Montenisa Tenuta and also began producing Franciacorta sparkling wines with the name on the Marquis Antinori label. This acquisition represents that group acquisitions strategy whose mission is to be able to be present in all the most prestigious areas of Italy with the production of high quality wines.
